More PB Street Scenes
No description was given to tell which street this is, but the dome of the pre-tornado courthouse is visible in the background.
Though this photo claims to be Grand Avenue in 1927, it is actually near the intersection of 5th and Cherry.  The horses are standing where the Coliseum is now.  If the date of 1927 is correct, that would account for the missing windows and "war zone" appearance of some of the buildings. In fact, the Quinn Hotel, which was as tall as the Crown Hotel (SEE THIS PIC), should be obstructing the view of The Crown.  However, since the Crown Hotel is clearly visible, we could  conclude that the above photo was taken after The Quinn was destroyed in the tornado of 1927,
This photo is looking north on B Street from Bartlett toward East Pine Street.
This photo, "Elks Home," built by the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elk, was on the site where the Daily American Republic stands today.
The description on this photo says "Cynthie and Main."   The house on the left was the Joseph Ashcroft home.  Between the two posts on the right of the picture was a fish pond.  Later this spot became a gas station, which has since been torn down, at the corner of 5th and  main.  When you click on the pic above, the photo is REALLY large. Be sure to size it up to full size.
These two pictures are of Vine Street, looking west from Broadway.  The red brick building on the right is the present-day home of Hay's Music.
This is Vine Street, looking east from the approximate location of Mickey's Cleaners.  The large Montgomery Ward building on the right is better known to most of us as the old home of Anderson's Furniture.

Intersection of
5th & Cherry
This is Fourth Street (Broadway) looking north from the Maple Street intersection..
The quality here is not too good, but this is Main Street looking north from the Vine Street intersection.  The old Court House gazebo is at the far right, and the First Christian Church spire is near the center of the photo.
The caption printed on this card says it is a view looking "north" from the court house.  I think it's a misprint, because the spired building in the center appears to be the WDBA, or Dalton Store Building
This view is looking north on Main Street from the Cedar Street junction. The buildings on the left side of this photo are also visible in the adjacent photo to the left.
Both of these photos, the B/W on the left, and the colorized version on the right show a snowy scene on Main Street.
This is Main Street, looking north, during the 1940's era, and looking south during the early 1960's
