Poplar Bluff Motels
The Avalon Motel was located where Kentucky Fried Chicken is now. The building in the center of the courtyard housed a restaurant and gas station.
The Frontier Court Motel was on the north side of Business 60 East, near the old Link Park.  The floors of the buildings are still visible in the now vacant lot.
The Tower Motel, so named because of its proximity to the water tower, was located at the corner of West Vine and Business 67, where Ruby Tuesday is located now.  The Tower Cafe, located under the "Tower Motel" sign was a common hang-out... an excellent place to get a good cup of coffee.  The card on the top left indicates that Tower Court was a "Piggie Hogg Property."
The Northwold called itself an "autel," a motel for automobile travelers.  It had both a restaurant and a pool.  It was located at the north end of town on Business 67 between the present First Community Bank, and the old Western Sizzlin location.
The Hickory House was located across the highway from The Avalon, at the present-day site of Hollywood Video and Wendy's. It had a restaurant, and even a disco during the 70's.  Hanging on the wall inside the building was a large stuffed Blue Marlin which was easily visible from the highway. We recently added the picture of the Hickory House Novelty Shop.  Its exact location is unknown, but if you have more information, use the link below to e-mail us.

The Stadium Motel got its name from being located across the highway from the stadium at PBJHS.  It stood in the spot where Auto Zone is located today.
